TranzAlpine train – Christchurch to Greymouth, and the Coastal Pacific train – Picton to Christchurch. Two of the world’s great scenic train trips, combined with self-drive independence from Greymouth to Picton, driving the dramatic West Coast and the stunning Queen Charlotte Sound coastal road. A two night stop in Nelson with a full day Abel Tasman nature eco cruise and walk, and two nights at Furneaux Lodge on Queen Charlotte Sound put an exclamation mark on this exceptional package!

Day 1Christchurch Airport - Christchurch City

  • Transfer from the airport to your hotel, shared shuttle
  • Overnight at Sudima Christchurch City, Luxe King Room including breakfast

Day 2Christchurch - TranzAlpine Train - Greymouth - Punakaiki (B)

  • Transfer from your hotel to the train station, by shared shuttle
  • TranzAlpine Train Christchurch to Greymouth: Experience the South Island’s striking natural landscape by taking a train between Christchurch and Greymouth. Along this journey you’ll see epic vistas, travel the edges of the ice fed Waimakariri River, traverse the Southern Alps, and see miles of native beech forest.
  • Upon arrival into Greymouth collect your vehicle and head north to Punakaiki for the night.
  • Overnight at Punakaiki Resort, standard room including breakfast.

Day 3Punakaiki - Nelson (B)

  • Today you will head north from Punakaiki to Westport via the scenic coast line and continue on to Nelson city.
  • Overnight at the Honest Lawyer, Deluxe King Room including breakfast

Day 4Nelson - Kaiteriteri/Marahau - Nelson (B,L)

  • Abel Tasman Boat & Walk Eco Tour: a fun and relaxing journey through the ecosystems of the Abel Tasman National Park. We explore the wonderous Islands, forests, beaches, rivers and seas of Te Tai Tapu (The Sacred Coast). Your expert guide is a trained biologist and will ‘open your eyes’ to the rich history and ecology of this stunning area.   This is a small group of less than 20 guests. This tour is authentic and personal, and skippered by a world-class guide

Day 5Nelson - Picton - Endeavour Inlet (B,D)

  • From Nelson make your way to Havelock and take the stunning Queen Charlotte Drive to Picton. Drop off your vehicle hire at the ferry terminal and board your ferry transfer to Endeavour Inlet.
  • Overnight at Furneaux Lodge, 1 bedroom Junior Suite

Day 6Endeavour Inlet, Queen Charlotte Sound (Furneaux Lodge) (B, D)

Furneaux Lodge:   

Located at the head of Endeavour Inlet in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds, Furneaux Lodge has a backdrop of native forest and lush rolling lawns right to the stunning green-blue water. Walk or bike the Queen Charlotte Track, or relax and unwind, soaking up the peaceful natural surroundings. Indulge in delicious, perfectly fresh Marlborough food at any time of the day, paired with local wine or coffee and tea, while enjoying sweeping sea views. Furneaux Lodge truly epitomises getting away from it all.

During your 2-night stay, relax in the comfort of a Tobias Junior Suite, which offers incredible views across the calm waters of Endeavour Inlet, best enjoyed from your private deck or patio. The one-bedroom suites accommodate up to two people in a king-sized bed or twin singles and includes a bathroom with a shower. Each airy unit has a well-appointed lounge/dining area with sea views. Enjoy the convenience of your own tea and coffee making facilities and mini fridge, heating and cooling options and easy access to all Furneaux Lodge facilities. Dine on delicious local cuisine at the lodge, and spend your stay relaxing in your suite, in the lodge hot tub or numerous waterfront hammocks, or explore the Queen Charlotte Track or Endeavour Inlet

Day 7Endeavour Inlet - Picton - Coastal Pacific Train - Christchurch (B)

  • Coastal Pacific Train – Picton to Christchurch. Alongside mountains and sea, this memorable journey between Picton and Christchurch is 98 kilometers of ruggedly beautiful coastline. You will get astonishingly close to the surging Pacific Ocean and steeply rising Kaikoura Ranges. The train travels through beautiful wine growing regions of Waipara, across broad, braided rivers and the rich patchwork farming landscape of the Canterbury Plains.
  • Transfer from the Christchurch train station to your accommodation
  • Overnight at the Sudima Christchurch City, Luxe King including breakfast

  • Package fares are made up of individual components from multiple suppliers and each component is subject to availability at the time of booking.
  • Deposit required: $250 per person at time of booking
  • Final payment: Due 35 days prior to departure

  1. Deposit is refundable less a $50 per person admin fee up to 35 days prior to departure.

COVID-19 – Vaccination Policy

For any New Zealand Traveller FIT (Free independent travel) package, or group arranged travel, the following vaccination requirements apply from 03 December 2021 with the introduction of the New Zealand Government Traffic Light system and directives, and based on individual requirements from accommodation, transport and sightseeing providers.

All travellers joining a New Zealand Traveller package or group tour, are required to be fully vaccinated for Covid-19, with confirmation in writing on the New Zealand Traveller passenger information form at the time of deposit, or prior to full payment.
